Bio-Innovation Campus

A central heart for teaching, research, and enterprise.

At the heart of our existing campus, a new comprehensive biomedical facility will enable students, researchers, and industry to collaborate in ground-breaking research across the full spectrum of life sciences. This will further enhance the University's expertise in responding to emerging and future priorities, from AI and climate change to industrial biotechnology and pandemic preparedness.

A visual of how the Bio-Innovation Campus will look

The Bio-Innovation Campus builds on our track-record of world-leading biochemistry, infectious diseases, and pharmacology research. We'll expand the number of in-demand Life Sciences graduates, needed to power the expanding sector. And the development will capitalise on state-of-the-art technology platforms, research laboratories and shared academic-industry spaces, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Bio-Innovation Campus will enable:

  • A redefined campus heart, which will become the engine for facilitating collaboration within the life sciences community
  • Integrated research, teaching and advanced technology platforms to provide the sector-leading vocational training needed by employers in the life sciences sector within and beyond the Liverpool City Region
  • Provision of rapid access to world-class expertise via embedded shared research facilities
  • Redevelopment of our bioscience teaching towards an ‘hourglass curriculum' in which students develop a broad understanding of different disciplines before they specialise
  • New co-working spaces, specialised research facilities, and expertise for industry
  • The creation of labs and workspaces, providing a transparent and dynamic student journey
  • A flagship facility to showcase our outstanding life sciences capabilities, strengthening the ability of the University and the city region to attract outstanding staff and students
  • Strengthening of the University's position within the Liverpool City Region life sciences research economy
  • Increase of outputs and impact across the Translational Research Pipeline, from blue-sky knowledge generation to systematic maximisation of value in clinical settings.
